    Airport:Copenhagen Airport  –ncFrae

    • Project Name: Copenhagen Airport
    • End user: Copenhagen Airport
    • Consultant: DSE (Danish System Elektronik)
    • September 2005 – Present

Description: Mission critical control system, landing light and runway control system.  65 RTU32s with over 5,000 I/Os in one network. PC-based RTUs with redundant network on optical fiber and event driven TCP communication

In connection with a major upgrade of the control system for the landing light Copenhagen Airport and DSE Airport Division has chosen RTU32 from Brodersen. The airport wanted to use their general IT network based on TCP-IP and Ethernet also for control of landing light. One of the important factors for the choice of RTU32 was the possibility of getting a redundant and event driven communication between the control tower and the distributed units controlling landing light and other technical installations like generator sets. About 80 RTUs with more than 5000 I/Os are part of the project.
By using the two Ethernet ports on RTU32 and RTU32s unique dual binding protocol you get a very safe and reliable communication channel. All commands are send in parallel in two separate networks and the receiving RTU listens to both. In this way it is secured that a delay or an interruption on one of the network segments will not influence the applicati. The RTU always reacts on the information first received. The administration of the huge amount of signals is automated.

The list of signals is transferred directly from one single Excel spreadsheet to the global binding editor which is a part of the programming tool used for RTU32. In this away a lot time is saved during configuration and testing of the installation and
later on maintenance is simplified a lot.

    Technical Notes:
    • Control and monitoring of landing light and technicalinstallations including control and monitoring of ventilation and diesel generators, regulators, etc. was originally installed in 99.
    • The installation is in 2005 upgrade to a redundant RTU32 based system with event driven communication via Ethernet.
    • The system includes more than 80 RTU32 RTUs andhandles more than 5000 I/O channels.
    • The solution is delivered by DSE Airport Solution A/S in cooperation with Brodersen.

Highway Traffic : GPRS Traffic Monitoring – Denmark

    • Project Name: Traffic Monitoring System using GPRS, Highway 3
    • End user: Danish Road Authority
    • Contractor: Olsen Engineering
    • Period: March 2005

Description: Brodersen’s GPRS Communicator is used to monitor traffic flows and congestion. Brodersen’s GPRS Communicator is used as a gateway, offering wireless communication between the remote monitoring points and the central control office. Each of the 13 monitoring points along the main ring road is fitted with cameras, which count the traffic, and a UCM-97. The camera takes a picture of the number plate and pushes the number plate data with a time stamp through to the central control room.

    Railway :Yeltech – UK

    • Project Name: Railway
    • End user: Network Rail
    • Consultant: Yeltech
    • Period: 2005

Description: Knowledge of the rail temperature is a must for the safe operation of a modern railway.  Brodersen’s solar powered RTU and GPRS Communicator are used to monitor the railway temperature and send the temperature and battery condition hourly to the zenOn SCADA system.  SMS alarm messages are sent to all recipients configured in the system from the SCADA system to preserve the RTU battery.

Tunnel :Eurotunnel – UK & France

    • Project Name: Eurotunnel
    • Contractor: Yardene
    • Period: 2000-2002

Description: Over 50 Brodersen RTUs are installed in the Eurotunnel. The critical Rail Monitoring Units monitors the rail temperature automatically. To control the heating of the tracks. The Rail Temperature needs to be monitored continuously in the summer as unusually high rail temperature can cause the rail to buckle and derail the trains.
